Collaborations

The Acquired Language Disorders Lab is currently collaborating with investigators from two longitudinal studies on the cognitive consequences of traumatic brain injury:

The Vietnam Head Injury Study (VHIS)

This study is a prospective, long-term follow-up study of a cohort of 1,221 Vietnam veterans with mostly penetrating brain injuries, which has stretched over more than 40 years. This project was previously based at the Cognitive Neuroscience Section of the NIH Clinical Center and is now administered through the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago). Exploring the Natural History of Traumatic Brain Injury within a Military Cohort – A Longitudinal Database and Blood Banking Study

This study aims to improve our understanding of TBI in a military cohort by developing a data repository that contains pertinent TBI-related information, including neurobehavioral, neurocognitive, neuroimaging, blood specimen, and sensory/motor data. It documents long term patient outcomes over 15 years.  This project is based at the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
